Position Overview

 

Seeking a detail-oriented Tax Preparer to prepare individual and/or business tax returns, ensure compliance with current tax laws, and deliver excellent client service during peak filing seasons.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare accurate and compliant individual (1040) and/or business tax returns (e.g., 1065, 1120, 1120S).

• Gather and review client financial documents such as income statements, expense records, and investment reports.

• Analyze client information to identify eligible deductions, credits, and tax-saving opportunities.

• Verify financial information by reviewing source documents.

• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of federal, state, and local tax regulations.

• Communicate with clients to clarify questions, request missing information, and explain tax outcomes.

• File tax returns electronically and ensure timely submission.

• Maintain client confidentiality and comply with data security and privacy regulations.

• Respond to IRS or state notices and support clients with audits when appropriate (depending on certification).

• Document work performed and maintain organized client files.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; additional coursework in accounting, finance, or tax preferred.

• Knowledge of tax preparation software (e.g., TurboTax ProSeries, Drake, TaxSlayer, Lacerte).

• Understanding of basic accounting principles and tax codes.

• Strong analytical and organizational skills.

• Excellent communication and customer service abilities.

• Ability to work in a deadline-driven environment, especially during tax season.

• Prior experience in tax preparation or accounting.

• Experience preparing complex returns (business, rental property, investments, etc.).
