Grinder Operator

Express Employment Professionals is seeking a highly independent, mechanically skilled Grinder Operator to support field operations for a local company. This role goes beyond standard equipment operation—ideal candidates will have strong mechanical experience, solid equipment knowledge, and the ability to troubleshoot and perform minor repairs in remote work environments.

The Grinder Operator works alone in previously logged, off-grid areas, using a loader with grapple hooks to feed slash piles and tree debris into a large wood grinder. The material is then processed into chips and loaded into semi-trucks for transport. This role requires excellent judgment, strong situational awareness, and the ability to safely configure site setups for equipment placement and semi-truck access.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate grinding equipment and grapple-style loader safely and efficiently in remote environments.

• Independently manage daily operations with minimal supervision.

• Troubleshoot, maintain, and perform minor repairs on equipment as needed.

• Process various types of lumber and tree species into chip material.

• Assess and navigate site terrain; identify safe and accessible loading zones for semi-trucks.

• Collaborate with truck drivers to ensure smooth loading and material transport.

• Complete required daily logs, reports, and equipment checks.

• Adhere to all company safety procedures and policies.

Qualifications

• Experience: 1–3 years operating mechanical logging equipment, whole-log chippers, or similar heavy machinery preferred.

• Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to diagnose issues and perform minor maintenance or repairs.

• Education: High school diploma or GED required.

• License: Valid driver’s license with no DUI within the past 5 years (company vehicle provided).

• Must pass an MVR check and pre-employment drug screening.

• Must be 18 years or older.

• Ability to work independently for extended periods in remote areas.

• Strong depth perception, hand–eye coordination, and attention to detail.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to remain seated for long periods while operating heavy machinery.

• Frequent climbing in and out of equipment.

• Ability to work outdoors year-round in various weather conditions and on uneven terrain.
