Apprentice Log Scaler

Located in Brookings, OR

Salary: 18.50-26.76

Job Description:

We are seeking a dependable and detail-oriented individual to join our clients team as a Log Scaler. This position begins as an apprenticeship, transitioning to a certified scaler role after successful completion of a 3–4 month training period.  Apprentice wage starts at $18.50/hr.  After certification wages range from $26.76-33.22/hr.  

Duties Include:

• Identify tree species
• Measure lengths and diameters of logs (Gross Scale)
• Evaluate logs for defects and make deductions (Net Scale)
• Establish log grade
• Assign appropriate sorts, decks, and codes to each log
• Accurately enter all data into a hand-held computer
• Work outdoors in all types of weather
