Duties

• Assist customers at the counter by providing detailed product information on roofing supplies, construction materials, and related tools
• Process sales transactions accurately using point-of-sale systems and handle cash, credit, or account payments
• Offer expert advice on roofing products, including shingles, metal roofing, flashing, caulking, and accessories, ensuring customer needs are met efficiently
• Maintain an organized and well-stocked inventory of roofing supplies and construction materials on the sales floor
• Collaborate with warehouse staff to ensure timely picking, packing, and delivery of orders
• Educate customers on product applications such as blueprint reading, schematics interpretation, heavy lifting techniques, and safety procedures
• Support construction estimating by providing product costs and availability for project planning purposes
• Demonstrate knowledge of hand tools, power tools, scaffolding, framing systems (metal stud framing), masonry supplies, tile laying materials, and other construction essentials
• Assist in visual merchandising to promote featured products or seasonal items effectively
• Ensure compliance with safety standards related to heavy lifting, handling hazardous materials like caulking or welding supplies, and maintaining a clean work environment

Qualifications

• Proven experience in construction supply sales or counter sales within a building materials environment is highly preferred
• Strong knowledge of roofing systems including shingles, metal roofing, flashing components, and related accessories
• Familiarity with construction estimating processes and blueprint reading is a plus
• Hands-on experience with hand tools, power tools, scaffolding, welding equipment, masonry tools, tile laying tools, and carpentry techniques such as trim carpentry or restoration work
• Ability to read schematics and technical drawings relevant to construction projects
• Physical ability to perform heavy lifting safely and efficiently during stock handling or assisting customers with large items
• Excellent communication skills with a customer-focused attitude; able to explain technical details clearly
• Basic computer skills for processing sales transactions and inventory management
• Valid driver’s license may be required for delivery support or inventory transport tasks

Nice-to-have Skills

• Experience in concrete forming or metal stud framing projects
• Knowledge of plumbing systems or masonry work for broader project support
• Maintenance Person experience across various trades enhances customer service capabilities
• Certification in forklift operation or safety training programs related to construction sites
