Manufacturer of machined products to the aerospace industry is seeking a Centerless Grinder Operator to join their team in Chatsworth.

Summary: The Centerless Grinder Operator is responsible for setting up and operating centerless grinding machines to produce precision metal components according to customer specifications and aerospace quality standards. This position requires a strong understanding of grinding processes, close attention to detail, and the ability to maintain tight tolerances in a high-precision manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

• Set up, operate, and monitor centerless grinding machines (through-feed and in-feed) to grind external surfaces of metal workpieces to blueprint specifications.
• Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and process sheets to determine grinding parameters such as part dimensions, tolerances, and required surface finish.
• Select, dress, and balance grinding wheels as needed for each job, ensuring proper setup and safe operation.
• Verify part dimensions using micrometers, calipers, comparators, and other precision measuring instruments to maintain tolerance and quality requirements.
• Make necessary machine adjustments to correct part deviations and maintain consistent production quality.
• Maintain a clean and organized workstation, ensuring compliance with 5S and safety standards.
• Perform routine machine maintenance and report any mechanical issues or equipment malfunctions to maintenance personnel or supervisors.
• Complete production documentation and inspection reports accurately and on time.
• Collaborate with engineers, quality inspectors, and supervisors to resolve technical or quality issues.
• Adhere to all aerospace industry standards, company policies, and quality management systems (AS9100, ISO 9001).

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum 3 years of experience operating centerless grinders in a precision machining environment (aerospace or defense industry preferred).
• Experience working with tight tolerances (±.0001”) and exotic alloys such as titanium, Inconel, or stainless steel preferred.
• Proficient in reading blueprints, geometric dimensioning & tolerancing (GD&T).
• Strong understanding of grinding principles, machine setup, and wheel selection.
• Skilled in the use of precision measurement tools and inspection techniques.
• Knowledge of coolant systems, feeds/speeds, and wheel dressing practices.
• Familiarity with quality systems (AS9100, ISO 9001) and lean manufacturing principles a plus.
