SMT Rework & Inspection Technician

We are currently seeking a detail-oriented SMT Rework & Inspection Technician to join our fast-paced manufacturing team. This role is ideal for someone with strong soldering and inspection skills who thrives in a hands-on, precision-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Use a microscope to verify correct component placement and orientation before soldering.

• Manually align parts prior to soldering and perform post reflow inspection and touch-up work.

• Identify and rework solder defects such as:

  • Poorly wetted joints

  • Solder voids or insufficient solder

  • Solder bridges or shorts

  • Misaligned leads or components

  • Tombstoned or billboarded components

  • Other SMT-related issues

• Operate Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) equipment to detect solder defects, and distinguish between real defects and false calls.

• Read and follow assembly instructions; accurately identify standard SMT components.

• Perform repetitive, detail-intensive work while seated for extended periods.

• Work efficiently in a high-volume, deadline-driven environment; overtime may be required.

Preferred Skills & Experience:

• Skilled in using rework tools such as hot air pencils, hot plates, and BGA removal systems (ERSA or similar).

• Familiarity with X-ray inspection techniques to identify hidden solder defects, especially on bottom-terminated components.

• Experience with running, soldering, and tacking jumper wires on re-design or prototype boards is a plus.

Certifications (Required or Preferred):

• IPC-A-610 Certification – Required (active or expired)

• IPC J-STD-001 Certification – Required (active or expired)

• IPC-7711/7721 Certification – Preferred (active or expired)

Work Schedule:

• Shift: Monday to Thursday, 5:00 AM – 3:30 PM EST

• Overtime: Weekend work may be required
