Shipping and Receiving

Receiving:

• Unload incoming shipments from trucks or freight carriers.

• Match delivered goods against purchase orders, packing slips, or invoices.

• Inspect all received items — check for damage, spoilage, correct quantity, correct packaging, correct labeling.

• Ensure food safety compliance (temperature when transported, cleanliness, etc.).

• Record receipt of goods in inventory / warehouse management system.

• Label and place items in proper storage (coolers, freezers, dry storage) following rotation (FIFO or FEFO as required).

Shipping:

•  Pick orders for shipment (ensuring correct items, specs, quantities).

• Pack goods appropriately (consider temperature control, packaging materials, protection).

• Generate and attach all required shipping documentation (invoices, bills of lading, temperature seals, etc.).

• Stage and load outbound shipments for carriers — make sure trucks/trailers are loaded safely and efficiently.

• Monitor that shipping schedules are met; coordinate with carriers.

 

General Duties:

• Operate material handling equipment (forklifts, pallet jacks, hand trucks).

• Maintain clean, organized warehouse/shipping/receiving areas.

• Assist with cycle counts, inventory reconciliation.

• Report discrepancies (shortage, damage, mis-ships) to supervisors and follow up.

• Maintain safety standards; follow food quality / regulatory compliance (e.g. HACCP, GMP, sanitary requirements).

• Keep good documentation; ensure data entry (inventory systems, shipping logs) is accurate.

Qualification:

•   Prior warehouse / food-distribution shipping & receiving experience is a plus.

• Ability to lift / move heavy items (often 40-50 lbs or more), stand for long periods.

• Comfortable working in cold / refrigerated / freezer conditions.

• Attention to detail.

• Ability to read & follow instructions / documentation.

• Strong computer skills: data entry, using inventory / warehouse management systems.
