The Shop Helper/Machine Operator is primarily responsible for the precision cutting of metal material in a timely manner. This position must maintain a high quality work, high level of attention to detail while ensuring personal productivity and safe operation of the machinery.

Job Description: 

• Reviews and interprets written work instructions
• Operates band saws and other fabrication shop machinery
• Ability to utilize fabrication equipment such as: threading machine, bender, stationary belt sander, drill press, bench grinder, hand tools, measuring tools, etc.
• Accurately uses measuring devices to ensure accuracy of cut orders
• Effectively prioritize work loads and use of available resources within time constraints
• Assists with keeping the warehouse in an orderly and clean state, following all company safety procedures
• Responsible for quality control of all personal cut orders
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

• Steel toe boots are required for this position! 
• Previous experience operating a Band Saw is a plus
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Experience and/or previous training is preferable in operating a bandsaw
• Ability to read and interpret documents furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule forms such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, quality manuals and procedure manuals
• Ability to deal with problems involving variables in standardized situations
• Ability to read a tape measure
• Ability to perform simple shop math, convert decimals to fractional equivalents
• Thorough knowledge of various types of metals, their physical properties and how to work with them

Physical Requirements: 

• The employee is regularly required to sit; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel a computer mouse or other computer equipment; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear; use hands and arms to reach for, grasp and manipulate objects; stand, climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl
• May be required to move or traverse considerable distances in the facility during the course of a workday
• Must have the physical abilities to perform essential warehouse tasks
• Must have the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. to a height of 3-4 feet and load product into trucks
• Must be able to remain in a stationary position for an extended period of time
• Ability to ascend/descend a ladder to pull or put away product from shelving and racking; Ability to safely operate machinery

Working Conditions:

• Warehouse facility with daily exposure to one or more of the following:
  • Moderate to severe noise level (equipment)
  • Slightly slippery surfaces
  • Moderate air pollution (dust)
  • Moderate vibration (equipment, tools)
  • Moving objects (forklift)
• Work required both inside and outside of the warehouse, with temperature exposure between 50-100 degrees inside.
