Communications Assistant
Kirk on the Hill Presbyterian Church is a reformed Biblical family church, founded in the town of Pelham in 1959, serving the surrounding community, growing through worship, witness and love. As we work to nurture a joyful spiritual life and grow our programs, we invite candidates for the position of Communications Assistant.
The is a contract position with the possibility for renewal, starting at $20 per hour, for 6 hours per week. We offer a mix of flexible hybrid work, combining remote work with in-office duties at our location in central Fonthill.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Communications Assistant works with the Kirk Ministry Team to support all aspects of communications for the church. These include preparing materials for the weekly worship service, updating various forms of communications, including the church directory, the website and social media channels, while triaging email and telephone messages for the church, liaising with the appropriate church personnel for a response.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- · Liaise with minister/relevant worship team member to obtain information for weekly service; create weekly order of service for print and online display (including EasyWorship slides)
- · Update website on weekly basis (announcements, events, news items)
- · Update social media accounts on weekly basis (announcements, events, news items)
- · Using submitted information, prepare annual meeting agenda and reports for distribution in electronic and print form
- · Distribute communications to church members in appropriate form (for sanctioned church groups, as appropriate, eg. Kids Quest request for volunteers)
- · Maintain and update database (directory+) of important contacts, including groups and congregation members/adherents/friends
- · Check church phoneline for messages, and respond appropriately (triage and deliver messages appropriately)
- · Check generic church email for messages, and respond appropriately (triage and deliver messages appropriately)
- · Other communications duties as assigned
SKILLS
- · Microsoft Office program proficiency (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- · WordPress, or similar website program
- · Excellent written and oral communication skills
- · EasyWorship and SongSelect familiarity, OR comfort in learning new technical skills with available training
- · Multi-tasking to accomplish many little tasks within a short window of time
- · Diplomacy: there are competing interests and deadlines from multiple directions; need to know whose 'voice' takes priority
- · Ability to keep information shared from a variety of sources in confidence, for those sources
- · Knowledge of or participation in the protestant faith/reformed church is an asset.
- · Skills in graphic design related to social media posts/familiarity or use of Canva or similar design program/app would be a strong asset.
EXPERIENCE
Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in an administrative support or similar position
EDUCATION
Minimum 2 years’ college diploma, or equivalent years of work experience, as determined by the personnel committee
