CAD Designer - Estimator – Custom Metal Fabrication

 

Pay Rate: $35 - $40 per hour
 Location: Sidney, OH
 Schedule: Full-Time, 1st Shift, M-F

 About the Position:

We are looking for a detail-oriented CAD Designer/Estimator to join our team. This role involves preparing accurate cost estimates, designing custom metal components, and collaborating with both customers and our internal team to optimize manufacturing efficiency. The ideal candidate has a strong background in metal fabrication, CNC machining, CAD design, and project estimating.

 

Key Responsibilities:

• Analyze blueprints, 3D models, and project specifications to develop accurate cost estimates.
• Utilize SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or other CAD software to create detailed 2D and 3D models for custom machining projects.
• Calculate material, labor, and production costs to provide competitive and accurate pricing.
• Work closely with customers to refine designs, improve manufacturability, and optimize quality for both prototypes and large production runs.
• Collaborate with production, engineering, and purchasing teams to ensure smooth execution of projects.
• Source materials and coordinate with suppliers to ensure availability and cost-effectiveness.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives through lean manufacturing principles.

Qualifications:

• Experience: Minimum 3+ years in machining, metal fabrication estimating, and design engineering.
• Education: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• Technical Skills:
• Proficiency in SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar CAD software.
• Strong understanding of CNC machining, metal fabrication, and manufacturing processes.
• Knowledge of material properties, tolerances, and quality control standards.
• Additional Skills:
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Ability to interpret complex technical drawings and GD&T.
• Effective communication and teamwork skills.
