Roadcrew/Laborer
Located in York, PA
Salary: $16.00/Hr
Hours: Monday through Thursday, 6am to 4pm
Length of assignment: Temporary (End of summer). Potential Evaluation Hire.
Dress code: Comfortable clothes to do roadside work such as raking and digging. We wear jeans and T-shirts or shorts and T-shirts with work boots.
BASIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Function as directed by Roadmaster or Foreman to effectively participate in all work activities of the Highway Department.
2. Perform roadway maintenance, construction, and reconstruction.
3. Participate in projects involving outside contractors and their employees.
4. Perform wintertime roadway maintenance (snow removal and ice control).
5. Operate Township equipment (trucks, tractors, mowers, backhoe, loader, roller, etc.) in a safe, efficient, and orderly manner as training and/or experience permits.
6. Perform grounds and facility maintenance and minor equipment maintenance.
7. Respond after normal working hours to perform roadway work in emergencies, bad weather, or other situations where public safety is affected.
8. Interact well with the public, fellow employees, and contract personnel.
9. Comply with all safety regulations, policies and procedures of the Township, County, State, and Federal Governments.
10. Wear Township provided safety/visibility apparel while at work.
11. Utilize all Township provided safety equipment as required, personal or otherwise.
MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
1. High school graduate or equivalent.
2. Current and valid Pa. Motor Vehicle Driving License.
3. Construction industry experience of at least one year or more.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
1. Knowledge of construction and roadway maintenance methods and safety requirements.
2. Knowledge and skilled in the proper and safe use and operation of highway maintenance vehicles, tools, and equipment.
3. Ability to communicate and listen effectively and to read and understand basic manuals and written instructions.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Excellent hand and eye coordination, color distinction, and depth perception.
2. Ability to lift to 75 pounds and to perform rigorous manual labor with agility to climb in and out of vehicles, rake, shovel, sweep, etc.
3. Ability to work in extreme weather conditions, and endure lengthy periods operating vehicles.
4. Ability to successfully pass pre-employment and post-employment drug and alcohol testing.
5. Maintain physical condition to comply with State and Federal requirements to be licensed and safely operate Township vehicles.
