We have an opening for an entry-level Machinist I position working at a company located in Decatur, AL that provides caster maintenance for the local flat-rolled steel industry. This is an evaluation-to-hire opportunity with potential for full-time placement.
*** THIS IS AN ENTRY-LEVEL POSITION REQUIRING GOOD MECHANICAL APTITUDE & SKILLS ***
Skills/Qualifications
A valid Driver’s License is REQUIRED.
Must be willing to learn how to operate an overhead crane and forklift.
Must be familiar with using hand/power tools, and precision tools such as micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, etc.
Must be willing to wear PPE (safety boots, hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, ear plugs, etc.) throughout an entire shift.
Must have a working command of the English language and be able to communicate orally and in writing.
Must be capable of arriving at work on time and working an entire work week on a consistent basis.
Ability to independently solve problems and perform corrective measures.
Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Ability to lift 40 lb. unassisted.
Duties/Responsibilities
Forms and shapes material.
Operates lathes, drill presses, mills, routers, grinding machines, duplicating, and profile machines.
Works from drawings and written instructions to create replacement and new parts in making repairs to metal parts.
Work is routine and machining is performed to ordinary tolerances.
Requires basic knowledge of various metals and of measurements used in machining process.
Performs housekeeping of machine and work area.
Perform daily maintenance check of machine.
Other work may be assigned at Management’s discretion.
