Job Title: Packaging Mechanic – Generator Assembly

Location: On-site (Manufacturing Warehouse)

Job Summary

The Packaging Mechanic plays a critical role in preparing, fitting, and assembling fuel tanks, electrical components, piping, and protective enclosures for industrial generator sets. This position requires a skilled mechanical and electrical background to interpret blueprints, safely perform rigging, and execute precise mechanical piping and wiring according to engineering specifications.

Key Responsibilities & Essential Functions

  • Mechanical & Piping Assembly: Measure, cut, thread, and fit black iron pipe, natural gas lines, exhaust systems, and push-lock hoses using manual and power tools. Identify and install standard fittings (JIC, Barb, NPT, Boss).

  • Electrical & Systems Wiring: Route wiring in protective looms, install annunciators, isolators, breakers, best battery kits, and connect basic DC control systems and single-/three-phase AC systems following safe electrical practices.

  • Component Installation: Install specialty generator accessories, including fuel filters, fuel polishers, crankcase ventilation systems, intake/discharge plenums, condensate drains, pneumercator/Veeder-Root systems, and normal vents.

  • Structural & Rigging Operations: Perform safe rigging and crane/hoist maneuvers to position, align, and bolt heavy generator units onto fuel tanks and base frames.

  • Blueprint Reading & QC: Interpret technical schematics, blueprints, and work orders to preplan tasks; perform precise measurements for shrouds and hardware; complete Quality Control (QC) documentation and manage ship-loose components.

  • Material Handling & Facility Safety: Safely operate heavy-capacity forklifts across warehouse production lines and outdoor yards; apply proper sealant to enclosures/tanks to ensure environmental protection.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of commercial/industrial generator mechanics experience, or an equivalent combination of trade school/technical training and hands-on mechanical/electrical assembly experience.

  • Technical Skills:

    • Proficiency in blueprint reading, schematic interpretation, and basic shop math.

    • Demonstrated skills in pipe fitting, thread cutting, cable crimping, and hydraulic tool operation.

    • Solid understanding of single-phase/three-phase AC and low-voltage DC systems.

    • Active or prior certification/proficiency in safe forklift operation and overhead rigging.

  • Screening: Must pass a pre-employment background check and drug screening.

  • Flexibility: Willingness to work overtime and adapt to shifting production schedules.

Physical Requirements

  • Lifting & Maneuvering: Regularly lift, push, pull, or carry up to 50 lbs.

  • Stamina & Mobility: Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, crouch, reach, and climb on concrete, fiberglass, or elevated metal platforms for extended periods.

  • Dexterity & Sight: Full manual dexterity to operate power/hand tools, perform repetitive motions, and maintain fine visual acuity for detailed measurement and inspection.

Working Conditions

  • Work is conducted in a active manufacturing warehouse environment subject to noise, dust, fumes, and temperature fluctuations within OSHA limits.

  • Tasks occasionally require working outdoors or moving between buildings in varying weather conditions.

  • Appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required and provided by the company.
