Position Summary

We are seeking a reliable and safety-conscious Wastewater Treatment Technician to support our metal plating manufacturing operations. This position is responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining the facility's industrial wastewater treatment system to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and permit requirements. The ideal candidate will have experience working with chemical treatment processes, industrial wastewater systems, and environmental compliance procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and monitor wastewater treatment equipment, including pumps, tanks, filters, clarifiers, and chemical feed systems.
  • Perform routine wastewater sampling, testing, and analysis to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal environmental regulations.
  • Monitor and adjust chemical treatment processes to maintain proper pH levels and remove heavy metals and other contaminants generated from metal plating operations.
  • Collect, record, and maintain accurate operational data, laboratory results, and regulatory documentation.
  • Conduct routine inspections of treatment equipment and systems to identify maintenance needs and operational issues.
  • Assist with preventive maintenance and minor repairs of wastewater treatment equipment.
  • Manage the handling, storage, and disposal of treatment sludge and other regulated waste materials.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and facility safety policies and procedures.
  • Respond to alarms, process upsets, spills, or other environmental incidents as required.
  • Work closely with production personnel to minimize wastewater generation and improve treatment efficiency.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Previous experience in industrial wastewater treatment, water treatment, environmental services, chemical processing, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment, preferably metal finishing, electroplating, anodizing, or chemical processing operations.
  • Basic knowledge of wastewater treatment principles, chemistry, and environmental regulations.
  • Ability to perform laboratory testing and maintain accurate records.
  • Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, operating procedures, and safety documents.
  • Proficiency with basic computer applications for reporting and data entry.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to environmental compliance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • State Wastewater Operator Certification or ability to obtain certification.
  • Experience treating wastewater containing heavy metals such as nickel, chromium, copper, zinc, or cadmium.
  • Knowledge of EPA, local pretreatment standards, and hazardous waste regulations.
  • Experience with pH adjustment, precipitation, filtration, and sludge dewatering systems.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and climb throughout the workday.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work around chemicals, wastewater treatment equipment, and industrial manufacturing processes.
  • Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including respirators when necessary.
