Engine Development (Dyno) Technician - $28/hour

Under the general supervision of the lab manager, perform a variety of complex tests on engines, carburetors, and components to determine life characteristics and failure mechanisms. Observe and record results of tests. Be part of a team responsible for leading innovations by supporting the engine and engine component product development process.

Specific Responsibilities:
1. Set up instrumentation including thermocouples and pressure transducers, and perform a variety of tests as required (power checks, fuel consumption, governor stability).
2. Basic set up and operation of high speed data acquisition and combustion analysis software i.e. AnD, AVL, and/or EFI calibration software
3. Observe, process, and report test data results with Microsoft Office which may affect outcome of future tests or may lead to new or useful information.
4. Maintain complete records of all scheduled and completed tests including procedures used and result obtained.
5. Analyze data and make recommendations for minor design modifications. Recommend enhancements of test systems or procedures.
6. Provide occasional aid to departmental audit functions. Work with outside suppliers and customers to ensure accurate testing and results.
7. Strong understanding of fabrication procedures. Ability to operate lathe, drill press, welding equipment and other related tools along with reading blue prints or engineering documents to prepare equipment and engine parts for testing.
8. Perform setup, maintenance, and calibration of test equipment as required. Notify supervisor of maintenance and calibration needs to keep equipment functional and compliant. Clean up test area and equipment after use and testing.
9. Maintain or obtain adequate inventory of supplies to perform tests as they are scheduled. Notify appropriate personnel of items that must be ordered.
10. Multi-task daily workload with direction and prioritization from lab supervisor and/or scheduler. Coordinate the work activities with other technicians as required. Communicate to ensure smooth transition between shifts.
11. Prepare sample engines and components for testing to customer application or specification per engineer.
12. Perform other related duties as required.
13. Advanced electromechanical equipment understanding

Education and Experience Requirements:
Associate Degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, preferably including internal combustion engine theory and application, or significant experience in an equivalent field and has the ability to work and communicate at an advanced technical level. Emotionally stable and capable of making sound decisions within above job description parameters.
