Heading Operator

Job Summary

We are seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Heading Operator to join our manufacturing team. The ideal candidate will have 1–3 years of manufacturing experience and the ability to set up and operate heading equipment according to job orders and production specifications. This position requires strong attention to detail, basic math skills, and the ability to perform quality inspections throughout the production process.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Set up heading machines according to job orders and production specifications.
  • Complete the first article inspection at the beginning of each production run.
  • Make necessary adjustments based on inspection results.
  • Once the first article is approved, complete the production run according to established requirements.
  • Perform quality checks throughout production to ensure parts meet specifications.
  • Use precision measuring instruments, including:
    • Micrometers
    • Dial and digital calipers
    • Rulers
    • Scales
  • Complete all required shop paperwork and production documentation.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
  • Follow all company safety and quality procedures.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Education Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Basic math skills required.
  • Trade school or technical training is a plus.

Qualifications & Work Experience

  • 1–3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds repeatedly.
  • Ability to remain standing for extended periods of time.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality parts.
  • Ability to follow job orders, production instructions, and safety procedures.
  • Ability to accurately use measuring tools and equipment.

Preferred Skills & Experience

  • Ability to read and understand prints, blueprints, and specifications.
  • Familiarity with machine repair and/or engine repair.
  • Basic machinist skills, including experience with:
    • Lathes
    • Milling machines
    • Bench grinders
    • Surface grinders
  • Understanding of carbide tooling.
  • Knowledge of cold heading, including nails, screws, screw sizes, and thread pitches.
  • Experience or knowledge of die fabrication.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and handle materials weighing up to 50 pounds repeatedly.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods during the workday.
  • Ability to safely operate machinery and use precision measuring equipment.
