Safety Director

Located in Dubuque, IA

Express Employment is seeking candidates for a local transportation company looking for an experienced Safety Director. This leadership role is responsible for overseeing driver safety, regulatory compliance, driver recruitment and training, and supporting daily transportation operations.

Responsibilities:

• Recruit, interview, hire, onboard, and train CDL drivers.
• Ensure compliance with DOT, FMCSA, and company safety regulations.
• Manage driver qualification files, drug and alcohol testing, CDL/medical card tracking, and ELD (Samsara) compliance.
• Investigate accidents and incidents, complete reports, coordinate insurance claims, and schedule vehicle repairs.
• Supervise, coach, and hold drivers accountable to company policies and safety standards.
• Prepare for DOT audits and maintain all required compliance documentation.
• Drive motorcoaches for inspections, testing, vehicle movements, charter trips, and emergency coverage as needed.

Qualifications:

• Valid Class A or B CDL with Passenger Endorsement.
• Experience driving, training, and supervising CDL drivers.
• Strong knowledge of DOT/FMCSA regulations, Hours of Service, ELD systems, and transportation safety practices.
• Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office and transportation management software.
• Willingness to work a flexible schedule and be available for on-call situations.
