Commercial HVAC Project Manager / Installation Manager

About the Role

This leadership position oversees the full lifecycle of commercial HVAC installation projects across Central Indiana. The Project Manager/Installation Manager directs field teams, manages schedules and budgets, and ensures high-quality execution for remodels, replacements, and new construction. This role is ideal for a hands-on leader with strong blueprint/layout skills and deep commercial or industrial HVAC experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Project Management — Oversee 4–8 active commercial HVAC projects at a time, ranging from retail spaces to warehouses and light commercial remodels.
  • Field Leadership — Lead and develop a team of 5 project installers; collaborate closely with 10–11 service technicians.
  • Blueprint & Layout Execution — Read, interpret, and execute from mechanical drawings, layouts, and project specifications.
  • Scheduling & Manpower Planning — Assign crews, plan labor needs, and maintain project timelines from kickoff through completion.
  • Customer & Vendor Coordination — Work directly with long-term commercial clients on equipment replacements, remodels, and new construction scopes.
  • Quality, Compliance & Safety — Ensure OSHA compliance, jobsite safety, and adherence to installation standards.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration — Partner with estimating, service, and leadership teams to support project success and future growth.

Required Qualifications

  • Commercial HVAC Field Experience — Minimum 5 years of hands-on commercial HVAC experience.
    • Candidates with commercial plumbing or electrical backgrounds may be considered.
  • Leadership Experience — Proven ability to manage crews, train installers, and lead field operations.
  • Technical Proficiency — Strong blueprint reading, layout, and project coordination skills.
  • No degree required — Experience and leadership ability are the priority.
  • Not considering residential-only backgrounds for this role.

Project Environment

  • Project Duration: Typically 6 months to 1 year
  • Geographic Scope: Primarily Central Indiana; occasional projects in Lafayette
  • Project Types: Light commercial, remodels, new construction, equipment replacements
  • Team Culture: Employee-owner environment with a wide age range (18–62), collaborative and stable

Compensation

  • Salary Range: $80,000–$125,000 for candidates with estimating experience
  • Commission: Available; structure flexible
  • Bonus: Open to discussion
