Mobile Diesel Service Technician

Location: Urbana, IL
Pay Range: $25.00-$30.00+/hr DOE
Schedule: Day Shift with On-Call Rotation

Position Overview:

We are seeking a Mobile Diesel Service Technician to provide roadside service and mechanical support for commercial vehicles and equipment. This position combines field service work with shop-based repair activities, offering variety throughout the workweek. Successful candidates will be comfortable diagnosing mechanical issues independently, working outdoors, and responding to service calls in a professional and timely manner.

Key Responsibilities:

• Respond to roadside service calls for commercial trucks and diesel-powered equipment

• Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and starting system issues in the field

• Perform repairs including batteries, lighting, air systems, fuel systems, and minor engine-related repairs

• Conduct inspections and preventative maintenance as needed

• Remove, inspect, and organize reusable components from retired vehicles and equipment

• Complete repair documentation and communicate findings clearly

• Maintain a safe and professional work environment during roadside and shop operations

Qualifications:

• Previous experience as a Diesel Mechanic, Diesel Technician, Heavy Equipment Mechanic, or related position

• Working knowledge of diesel engines, air brake systems, electrical systems, and preventative maintenance procedures

• Ability to troubleshoot and repair equipment with limited supervision

• Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record

• Ability to lift up to 75 pounds

• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions

• Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation

Preferred Qualifications:

• CDL A or CDL B

• Experience performing mobile or roadside repairs

• Welding or fabrication experience

• Experience working on heavy-duty trucks, trailers, or construction equipment

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

• Combination of outdoor roadside service work and indoor shop work

• Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing, and lifting

• Exposure to moving equipment, vehicle traffic, noise, dirt, grease, and varying weather conditions

• May be required to work evenings, weekends, or after-hours service calls as business needs dictate
