A local public agency is hiring for an Equipment Mechanic I or II, responsible for the inspection, maintenance, and repair of medium to heavy vehicles and construction equipment.

 

Responsibilities:

• Diagnose and repair engines, transmissions, suspensions, brakes, hydraulics, and electrical systems
• Perform preventative maintenance and full/partial engine overhauls
• Conduct BIT inspections and emission tests
• Perform basic welding and fabrication
• Maintain accurate repair records using shop software
• Respond to emergency repairs in the field

Requirements:

• Mechanic I: High school diploma or equivalent + 2 years of vehicle repair experience
• Mechanic II: High school diploma or equivalent + 6 years of experience, including work on complex hydraulic, electrical, and fire pump systems
• Ability to lift up to 100 lbs and work in various physical positions
• Familiarity with diagnostic tools, micrometers, welding equipment, and safe shop practices
• Valid California driver’s license; Class A license preferred or must be obtained within one year

Preferred:

• Vocational training in medium/heavy vehicle or construction equipment maintenance
• Experience with municipal vehicles and field repair
