CNC Setup Programmer – Cary, IL | 1st Shift

Our client, a precision manufacturing leader in Cary, IL, is seeking an experienced CNC Setup Programmer to join their 1st Shift team. In this role, you will provide CNC programming and manufacturing leadership to production cells by leveraging programming expertise, advanced tooling strategies, and new technology integration. You will play a key role in driving efficiency, best-practice machining methodologies, and personnel training to achieve world-class CNC operations.

CNC Setup Programmer Schedule: Monday – Friday | 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Pay Range: $30.00 – $37.00/hr (Based on experience)

CNC Setup Programmer Responsibilities:

• Ensure safe machining and setup practices while enforcing all safety policies
• Program 3- to 5-axis CNC mills and lathes using Mastercam (2017+)
• Generate setup documentation, tool lists, and detailed machining notes
• Update, improve, and maintain machining process specifications (SOPs)
• Support first-piece inspections and optimize CNC setups
• Drive machining process improvements and advanced tooling strategies
• Participate in NPI activities and manufacturability reviews
• Provide setup training (starting with setup leads), identify setup challenges, and recommend solutions
• Oversee the launch of new designs into CNC production cells, ensuring accurate tooling, processes, and personnel understanding
• Recommend new equipment and enhancements, ensuring proper capital deployment and operator training

CNC Setup Programmer Requirements:

• 5+ years of CNC programming experience for 3- to 5-axis mills and lathes using Mastercam (2017+)
• Ability to program complex parts from 2D drawings and 3D models
• Strong knowledge of GD&T and engineering drawing interpretation
• Solid understanding of G-code, M-code, speeds, and feeds
• Ability to create clear setup sheets, tooling documentation, and process notes
• Strong teamwork and collaboration skills

Preferred Requirements:

• Experience with Okuma machines and OSP controls
• Turn-mill / mill-turn programming experience
• Experience with in-process probing, inspection routines, and measurement systems
