Assistant Controller Job Summary

An injection molding manufacturing organization in West Michigan is seeking an experienced Assistant Controller to oversee day-to-day accounting operations and support financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting activities. This role provides leadership to the accounting team and plays a key role in ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and continuous process improvement.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader who is analytical, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a collaborative manufacturing environment where accuracy, accountability, and cross-functional partnership are essential.

Assistant Controller Responsibilities

Oversee daily accounting operations including general ledger, accounts payable, and accounts receivable
Prepare and review monthly financial statements and analyze results for accuracy and trends
Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal accounting policies and controls
Lead month-end close processes, including account reconciliations and checklist management
Support internal and external audits by preparing documentation and responding to inquiries
Oversee accounting for fixed assets, tooling, and capital expenditures
Partner with department leaders to develop budgets and forecasts
Analyze financial data and provide insights to support business decision-making
Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting staff, including Staff Accountant and AP/AR team members
Drive process improvements and standardization across accounting functions
Collaborate cross-functionally with leadership and operational teams
Support special projects and ad hoc financial analysis as needed

Schedule & Pay

Schedule: Full-time, Monday–Friday
Pay: $85-$100k/YR., based on experience

Assistant Controller Qualifications

Required:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment
Strong knowledge of GAAP and internal controls
Experience overseeing general ledger, AP/AR, and financial reporting processes
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
Ability to work cross-functionally and manage multiple priorities

Preferred:

CPA designation
Experience in a manufacturing environment
Experience leading or mentoring accounting staff
