Express Employment Professionals, Laguna Hills is recruiting Design Technical Lead for a company located in Costa Mesa.

 

Our client is seeking a Design Technical Lead to support the development and execution of design plans through hands-on CAD drafting and technical problem-solving. This is a production-focused role. The candidate will spend a significant portion of their time working directly in AutoCAD, developing and refining plans. Designers define the vision. This role ensures that vision works spatially, technically, and within real world constraints while translating it into clear, accurate drawings.

 

Service Line: Direct Hire, Fulltime

Pay: $100k-$110k salary

Schedule: Monday-Friday

Responsibility:

·         Develop and modify plans directly in AutoCAD on a daily basis, while directing outsourced production as needed

·         Translate design concepts into clear, accurate, and organized drawings

·         Review layouts to ensure they are feasible and function as intended

·         Identify and resolve issues related to spacing, grading, drainage, materials, and access

·         Ensure designs account for real-world requirements such as clearances, depths, constructability, and compliance with codes and regulations

·         Provide clear markups and direction to support efficient CAD production

·         Coordinate with internal and outsourced teams to maintain quality and consistency

·         Perform quality control reviews of plan sets prior to release

·         Ensure alignment across drawings, legends, and documentation

·         Coordinate with architects, civil engineers, and other consultants as needed

·         Interpret technical input and apply it appropriately to the design

·         Research and apply relevant codes and constraints as needed

·         Redline renderings when necessary

Role Expectations

·         Own the technical accuracy of all plans before they are issued

·         Be hands-on in CAD and take responsibility for the quality of the drawings

·         Identify and resolve issues early, not during construction

·         Provide clear and decisive direction when coordinating with others

·         Think through real-world implications before anything leaves

·         Effectively manage and progress multiple projects simultaneously

Requirements:

·         Proficiency in AutoCAD (required), including experience with Xrefs (external references)

·         Comfortable working extensively in CAD as part of daily responsibilities

·         Interest in landscape design, architecture, or design-build environments

·         Strong spatial awareness and ability to think through how things fit and function

·         Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work through complex design challenges

·         Ability to read and interpret drawings (architectural, civil, or similar), or learn quickly

·         Familiarity with construction concepts and materials is a plus, but not required

·         Exposure to zoning, permitting, or regulatory constraints is helpful, but not required

·         Ability to research and apply information as needed

·         Clear communication and ability to work across teams

·         High level of ownership, attention to detail, and follow-through
