Sewing Machine Operator – Job Description

Position Overview

The Sewing Machine Operator is responsible for operating industrial sewing equipment to assemble garments, textiles, and other fabric-based products. This role requires accuracy, consistency, and strong attention to detail to ensure high-quality output that meets production standards and customer specifications.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate industrial sewing machines to sew, join, hem, reinforce, or finish fabric materials based on production requirements.
• Select the appropriate thread, needles, and materials required for each job.
• Guide fabric through the machine and handle workpieces to achieve accurate and consistent stitching.
• Inspect completed products, trim excess threads, and ensure each piece meets quality standards.
• Perform routine cleaning and basic maintenance on sewing machines to keep them in optimal condition.
• Read and interpret patterns, blueprints, and production instructions accurately.
• Maintain a clean and organized workstation.
• Perform additional related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Experience operating industrial sewing machines preferred.
• Strong attention to detail and precision in stitching and measurements.
• Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
• Ability to follow written instructions, patterns, and technical drawings.
• Basic knowledge of fabrics and how different materials behave when sewn.
• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
