Quality Inspector – Day Shift (Lexington, KY)
Overview
Responsible for checking, testing, and inspecting raw materials, in‑process components, and finished products at various stages of production. Performs routine and advanced analyses using precision measurement tools and inspection equipment. Works under direct supervision while supporting overall product quality, reliability, and compliance with customer specifications.
Roles & Responsibilities
Inspection & Testing
• Follow established procedures to inspect raw materials, goods in process, and finished goods.
• Compare physical characteristics of components, materials, and products to technical specifications to identify defects.
• Conduct routine tests, record results, and prepare basic technical reports.
• Perform visual and dimensional inspections, including calculating distances, angles, radii, tapers, thread data, and gear data using advanced measurement systems (Zeiss or Mitutoyo CMMs, Smartscope, RAM).
• Utilize precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, comparators, gauge blocks, indicators, surface gauges, surface plates, and sine bars to accept or reject parts.
• Approve finished products by confirming specifications, performing visual and measurement tests, and coordinating rework when required.
Technical Interpretation & Documentation
• Read and interpret complex technical drawings, incorporating tight tolerances into the inspection process.
• Input and analyze statistical data using Infinity or other SPC software.
• Document inspection data and evaluate statistical trends to maintain product quality and reliability.
Equipment Operation & Troubleshooting
• Operate inspection equipment and troubleshoot issues affecting product quality.
• Report equipment or quality concerns to leadership promptly.
Leadership, Training & Compliance
• Serve as a resource for quality control procedures and inspection methods.
• Train employees on inspection tools, equipment, GD&T, and technical drawings.
• Direct other inspectors when requested by the team lead or supervisor.
• Perform internal audits in accordance with company and customer quality standards.
• Assist in any assigned area and work any required shift or day.
Education
• High School Diploma or GED required.
Experience
• 1–3 years of product inspection experience in a manufacturing environment.
Functional / Technical Skills
• Strong interpersonal and organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficiency in GD&T and intermediate math skills.
• Strong problem‑solving, judgment, and decision‑making abilities.
• Ability to work effectively with diverse teams and backgrounds.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word).
• Qualified in the use of multiple precision inspection tools such as micrometers, calipers, microscopes, federal gauges, Styre, Talyrond 73, FPI, video scopes, and lighting equipment.
• Ability to perform detail‑oriented tasks using basic language and intermediate math skills.
