Lifeguards and Swim Instructors hold a part-time temporary position at the Daniel Meyer Memorial Pool aquatic facility for the summer months.  This position will start in early June.

Lifeguards - $19.97-$21.97 per hour, typically 15-30 hours per week

Typical Job Duties

  • Monitor pool guests using facilities and make quick decisions to meet safety protocol
  • Communicate with pool guests of all ages to convey information about safety conditions, program details, rules and policies
  • Provide customer service to handle cash/card transactions, explain programming schedule, and direct inquiries to appropriate staff
  • Regularly address facility maintenance needs including cleaning of restroom/locker room areas
  • Provide first aid care including cuts, stings, and following established emergency action plans
  • Conduct and document regular chemical analysis of pool water and maintenance of pool equipment and facility

Essential Job Functions

  • Participate in all scheduled StarGuard Elite training modules for certification and in-service training throughout the season
  • Understand and apply best practices for lifeguarding according to StarGuard Elite Lifeguard training modules
  • Implement and supervise adherence to emergency action procedures when necessary
  • Meet department expectations and policies
  • Duties as assigned by Recreation Program Coordinator and Management Staff
  • Operate POS system and follow cash handling procedures
  • Provide accurate information to pool patrons

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS/LICENSES: The Daniel Meyer Pool is a training center for the StarGuard Elite Lifeguard Agency and will provide all lifeguard employees with comprehensive lifeguard certification including First Aid, CPR/AED training.

Required Qualifications for All Positions

  • Must be able to provide assistance to customers and staff to complete all duties associated with emergency action plan management including:
    • Operating a telephone
    • Operating a computer
    • Operation and transportation of pool equipment including backboard, AED and first aid equipment
    • Effectively communicate with large groups of people to comply with safety protocol
  • Must be able to provide assistance to customers and staff to complete all duties associated with regular pool operation including moving guard stand, chair lift, and pool vacuum with appropriate assistance as needed
  • Must be able to perform job-related duties in abnormal working environments associated with extreme temperatures, inclement weather, communicable diseases, poor air quality, and wildfire events in accordance with OSHA and Oregon Health Authority requirements.
  • Must be 16 years of age
    • Candidates that are 15 years old may be granted a variance to work with approval
  • Must have availability that supports operation of the pool on weekdays and weekends including all holidays and evenings
  • Ability to complete lifeguard and/or swim instructor certification training including all First Aid, AED, and CPR requirements
