FISH MARKERS NEEDED - Multiple National Fish Hatchery Locations

Temporary Positions | Spring - Summer 2026

ABOUT THE PROJECT

US Fish Project is seeking experienced Fish Markers for multiple temporary assignments at National Fish Hatcheries throughout Washington State. These positions involve essential fish management work including fin clipping, coded wire tagging, and fish tracking operations.

AVAILABLE POSITIONS

1. Spring Creek NFH - TFCS Project

  • Location: Spring Creek National Fish Hatchery
  • Dates: March 2, 2026 - April 3, 2026
  • Positions Available: 16 Fish Markers
    • 8 Day Shift
    • 8 Night Shift

2. Prosser YN Hatchery - URB Project

  • Location: Prosser YN Hatchery
  • Dates: March 30, 2026 - April 9, 2026
  • Positions Available: 3 Fish Markers
  • Special Note: Travel reimbursement authorized

3. Little White Salmon NFH - URB Project

  • Location: Little White Salmon National Fish Hatchery, Cook, WA
  • Dates: March 30, 2026 - June 18, 2026
  • Positions Available: 12 Fish Markers
  • Scope: Left ventral fin clip (130,000 fish), adipose clip and coded wire tag (65,000 Chinook salmon)

4. Carson NFH - SCS Project

  • Location: Carson National Fish Hatchery
  • Dates: April 20, 2026 - May 8, 2026
  • Positions Available: 4 Fish Markers

5. Little White Salmon NFH - SCS Project

  • Location: Little White Salmon National Fish Hatchery, Cook, WA
  • Dates: April 27, 2026 - May 22, 2026
  • Positions Available: 2 Fish Markers

6. Willard NFH - URB Project

  • Location: Willard National Fish Hatchery
  • Dates: June 1, 2026 - June 18, 2026
  • Positions Available: 4 Fish Markers
    • 2 Day Shift
    • 2 Night Shift

COMPENSATION (2026 Rates)

Base Hourly Rate: $17.72/hour
Health & Welfare: $5.36/hour
Total Compensation: $23.08/hour


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform left ventral fin clipping on juvenile Chinook salmon
  • Conduct adipose fin clipping procedures
  • Apply coded wire tags for fish tracking and identification
  • Maintain accurate counts and records
  • Follow all safety and biosecurity protocols
  • Work efficiently in a fast-paced hatchery environment

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience & Skills

  • REQUIRED: Previous experience with fish marking projects
  • Demonstrated ability to perform fin clipping and tagging procedures
  • Basic light industrial skill set
  • Ability to work accurately with high-volume fish processing
  • Physical ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks
  • Attention to detail and ability to maintain quality standards

Special Requirements

  • TERO Certification required if working on tribal land (Tribal Employment Rights Ordinance)
  • Must be able to work assigned shift (day or night, depending on location)
  • Reliable transportation to remote hatchery locations
