Seasonal Surface Water Monitoring in Sheridan, WY- $20.00/hr

 

Express Employment is searching for a Surface Water Monitor to assist with a seasonal project. This position requires experience with field data collection and data management.

 

Season is June 1-November 30th (3 month minimum commitment) 

 

 

Job Duties:

• Field Preparation: Review maps and GIS data to select monitoring sites, determine site characteristics, and identify land ownership. Prepare preliminary files and pre-populate electronic field forms.
• Field Data Collection: Assist with measuring chemical, biological, and physical properties of streams and lakes for water quality assessments and Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) development. This includes sampling water, aquatic invertebrates, and algae, and applying basic surveying techniques to measure stream morphology and habitat.
• Data Management: Compile, organize, review, and enter data into spreadsheets and databases. Complete data calculations and basic data analyses.

 

What we look for:

• Possess, or be working towards, a bachelor’s degree in Natural Sciences (e.g., Biology, Geology, Watershed Management, or related field)
• Experience with generalized field data collection and data management, water-related data analysis, and ArcGIS are beneficial
• Professional written and verbal communication
• Strong attention to detail
• Passion for the outdoors and availability for overnight travel

Physical/Working Conditions:

• Walk moderate distances on steep, rocky, or muddy terrain.
• Work in adverse conditions (hot/cold temperatures, strong wind, rain, snow, and biting insects).
• Comfortably wade in swiftly flowing, rocky, or muddy streams up to waist-height, work from a boat or raft, and carry up to 40 pounds.
• Accommodate significant overnight travel, including occasional camping in remote areas, with potential exposure to dangerous wildlife and sudden hazardous weather/road/stream conditions.
