The Utility Worker is responsible for supporting facility operations through general labor, maintenance support, equipment operation assistance, and housekeeping tasks. This role ensures that production and facilities are maintained in a clean, safe, and efficient condition. The ideal candidate is dependable, willing to perform a variety of physical tasks, and able to follow direction and standard safety procedures.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

General Maintenance & Housekeeping

  • Perform routine cleaning of plant floors, work areas, storage spaces, and exterior grounds.
  • Remove trash, debris, and recyclables to designated areas.
  • Assist with basic painting, minor repairs, and upkeep of facility surfaces and structures.
  • Maintain landscaping by mowing, trimming, and general grounds care as needed.

Operational Support

  • Assist production teams and equipment operators in handling materials and tools.
  • Clean, fuel, and check fluid levels on vehicles and light equipment.
  • Assist with loading, unloading, and staging of supplies and finished goods.
  • Track and report needed repairs or supply shortages to supervisors.

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow all OSHA and company safety procedures at all times.
  • Ensure proper storage and handling of chemicals, cleaning supplies, and hazardous materials.
  • Report unsafe conditions, incidents, or near-misses to management promptly.

Documentation & Communication

  • Complete basic logs or reports related to maintenance tasks, inspections, and shifts.
  • Communicate clearly with supervisors and coworkers regarding tasks and schedules.

 

Qualifications & Skills

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
  • Ability to perform physical labor and lift up to [X] lbs consistently (e.g., 50 – 75 lbs).
  • Strong work ethic, punctuality, and ability to follow instructions.
  • Basic use of hand tools and light power tools.

Preferred (not required):

  • Forklift or equipment operator certification.
  • Experience in a manufacturing, industrial, or maintenance environment.
  • Basic communication skills and ability to work in a team environment.

 

Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • Work is performed both indoors and outdoors, often in industrial conditions.
  • Exposure to noise, dust, and varied temperature conditions possible.
  • Requires physical movements such as bending, lifting, walking, and standing for extended periods.
