Academic Advisor (Temporary)

Part-Time | On-Site | $20.00/hour

Express Employment Professionals is seeking a dedicated Academic Advisor for temporary service. This role provides educational and career counseling to VUB participants, supports basic skills enhancement, and assists veterans in meeting college entrance requirements. The goal is to empower VUB participants to achieve academic and career success.

Key Responsibilities

Send weekly emails, conduct interviews, and complete assessment reports for assigned veterans.
Counsel and advise veterans on available program services.
Document, maintain, and file all relevant veteran communications and documents.
Coordinate, evaluate, and monitor veteran progress with tutors.
Develop individualized education and career plans for each participant.
Continuously monitor assigned veterans’ progress and provide support as needed.
Maintain thorough knowledge of federal regulations, grant guidelines, and program policies.
Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to all HIPAA and FERPA privacy requirements.

Qualifications

(R = Required | N = Nice to Have)

Required

(R) Associate or bachelor's degree (any field).
(R) U.S. Veteran with an Honorable discharge/separation.
(R) Strong oral and written communication skills, comfortable communicating in person, by phone, or via email with a diverse population.
(R) Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams), Adobe PDF tools, and general internet use.
(R) Ability to work independently with limited supervision; self-motivated and capable of making decisions and solving problems.
(R) Effective time management, organizational, and multi‑tasking skills.

Nice to Have

(N) Disability rating awarded by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
(N) Prior participation in the G.I. Bill or Vocational Readiness & Employment (VR&E) programs.

Schedule & Compensation

Part-Time: Monday–Friday
Hours: 8:00 AM – 1:00 PM (20–25 hours per week, based on workload)
Pay: $20.00 per hour
