We are seeking a reliable and safety-conscious Lime Silo Operator to support operations at our Lakeland, FL terminal. This is a critical hands-on role responsible for managing the flow of bulk lime products. You will oversee the unloading of materials from railcars, monitor storage systems, and ensure the efficient transfer of product into silos and trucks.
The ideal candidate is comfortable working in an industrial environment, possesses mechanical aptitude, and demonstrates an unwavering commitment to safety protocols and environmental compliance.
Operational Execution
Railcar Unloading: Execute the safe unloading of dry bulk lime products from railcars using pneumatic blowers, screw conveyors, and bucket elevators. Ensure proper connection of hoses and seals to prevent spillage or leaks.
Silo & Inventory Control: Monitor silo levels, pressure gauges, and control panels to prevent overfilling and ensure lime is directed to the correct storage bins.
Truck Loading: Facilitate the efficient loading of bulk tanker trucks, ensuring accurate weight distribution and verifying product grades before vehicles leave the terminal.
Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine preventative maintenance, including lubricating bearings, inspecting conveyor belts for wear, and assisting maintenance teams with minor repairs to pumps, valves, and blowers.
Safety & Compliance
Safety Protocols: Strictly adhere to all corporate safety standards, specifically regarding Working at Heights (using fall protection harnesses) and Energy Isolation (Lockout/Tagout procedures).
Dust & Environmental Control: Proactively manage dust levels using industrial vacuums and sweeping to maintain compliance with environmental regulations. Ensure baghouses and dust collectors are functioning correctly.
Risk Assessment: Participate in daily safety briefings and risk assessments before starting non-routine tasks.
Experience: Previous experience in an industrial, mining, terminal, or heavy manufacturing environment.
Mechanical Aptitude: Ability to troubleshoot basic mechanical issues (e.g., clearing jammed conveyors, identifying leaking seals, monitoring pressure).
Work at Heights: Comfort climbing vertical ladders (up to 50+ feet) and working on elevated platforms or railcars while wearing full fall-protection gear.
Physical Requirements: Ability to lift 50+ lbs, manipulate heavy hoses/couplings, and work outdoors in Florida weather conditions (heat/humidity).
Reliability: A strong track record of attendance and punctuality.
Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with pneumatic conveying systems, rail logistics, or handling dry bulk materials (cement, fly ash, lime).
Equipment Operation: Experience operating skid steers, forklifts, or railcar movers is a plus.
Digital Skills: Basic computer literacy for logging inventory data and completing safety reports.
Setting: Industrial facility with exposure to noise, vibration, moving mechanical parts, and airborne particles (dust).
Schedule: Ability to work flexible hours, including potential overtime or weekends based on shipment schedules and customer demand.
PPE: Mandatory use of steel-toed boots, hard hat, safety glasses, high-visibility clothing, and respiratory protection when required.
