The general labor role is a vital position offering opportunities for individuals willing to learn, work hard, and adhere to strict safety and quality standards. It involves a variety of tasks related to production, cleaning, and quality control within a fast-paced environment. 

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Adaptability: Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle various tasks as needed.
  • Dexterity: Skill and precision in handling tools, knives, and equipment. 
  • Basic understanding of safety practices in a construction environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Physical Strength and Stamina: Ability to lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs), stand for long periods, perform repetitive movements, and work in various environmental conditions (e.g., cold, warm, wet, noisy).
  • Attention to Detail: Ensuring the quality and consistency of products, adhering to recipes and standards, and following safety protocols.
  • Teamwork and Communication: Collaborating effectively with team members and supervisors, following directions, and communicating clearly.
  • Basic Math Skills: For tasks such as measuring ingredients and tracking production data.
  • Understanding of Food Safety Regulations: Knowledge of HACCP, USDA, GMP, and other food safety regulations and practices, or a willingness to be trained.

Responsibilities:

  • Handling and moving materials: This includes loading, unloading, and transporting ingredients, equipment, and finished products within the facility.
  • Operating and monitoring machinery: General laborers may operate and monitor various machines and equipment used in the food production process, including those for mixing, cooking, or processing ingredients.
  • Maintaining cleanliness and sanitation: A significant portion of the work involves cleaning and sanitizing work areas, equipment, utensils, and dishes according to health and safety standards.
  • Assisting with production and packaging: This involves tasks such as packaging, labeling, sorting, and loading finished products for shipment.
  • Inspecting and ensuring quality: General laborers are responsible for inspecting products for quality control, adherence to company standards, and identifying any defects or issues.
  • Following instructions and safety protocols: These roles require individuals to follow both written and verbal instructions accurately, adhere to safety protocols, and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Reporting equipment problems or issues: Promptly notifying supervisors or leads of any equipment problems or potential issues is crucial for maintaining production efficiency and safety.
  • Performing general cleaning and maintenance: This includes tasks like cleaning and lubricating equipment, maintaining a tidy workspace, and assisting with routine machine maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Preparing for and assisting with changeovers: This involves emptying hoppers, preparing, removing, and securing ingredients, equipment, and tools during production line changeovers.

Work Environment:

The work environment for general laborers in the food industry can be demanding, involving exposure to various conditions, including cold and warm areas, and sometimes around animal products. The noise level in the workplace can be high due to plant machinery and equipment. Strict adherence to safety protocols, including wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, hearing protection, and safety shoes, is mandatory
