Waste Water Operator I

The Waste Water Operator 1 is responsible for operating and maintaining the wastewater system to ensure it meets permit requirements and does not interrupt plant operations. The operator must be able to run at least five system processes properly and safely. This role also includes training others who are learning the system.

Key System Processes:

• Sludge removal
• Daily data and sample collection
• Forklift operation and sludge bin dumping
• pH neutralization system
• Water transfer management
• Equipment maintenance
• Cardboard compactor operation

Major Responsibilities:

1. Operate the wastewater system in compliance with permits.
2. Plan daily operations with a supervisor or senior operator.
3. Minimize system downtime and interruptions.
4. Train and support new operators.
5. Complete all required safety and food safety training.

Connections:

• Provide a compliant wastewater system to support production.
• Depend on manufacturing for proper waste stream input.
• Depend on maintenance for equipment upkeep.

Skills:

• Mechanical ability and forklift operation
• Ability to detect equipment issues
• Clear communication with maintenance and supervisors
• Teamwork, attention to detail, and initiative

Education:

• High school diploma or GED preferred
• English proficiency (spoken and written)

Work Environment:

• Outdoor work in all weather conditions
• Exposure to odors and waste materials
• Physical tasks: standing, walking, lifting, climbing, bending
• May work extended hours or different shifts as needed
