About the Position

We are seeking an experienced Controller in Napa, California. The ideal candidate will provide strategic financial leadership while managing all accounting operations, financial reporting, and compliance requirements. This position reports directly to the CFO/CEO and plays a crucial role in the company's financial success.

Key Responsibilities

Direct all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and fixed assets
Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP
Develop and maintain robust internal controls and financial procedures
Manage month-end and year-end close processes
Lead comprehensive budgeting and forecasting processes:
- Develop annual operating budgets and rolling forecasts
- Create detailed revenue and expense projections
- Analyze budget variances and provide action recommendations
- Monitor performance metrics and KPIs
- Prepare sensitivity analyses and what-if scenarios
- Coordinate with department heads for budget planning
- Present budget updates to senior management
Oversee cash flow management and forecasting:
- Develop short-term and long-term cash forecasts
- Monitor working capital requirements
- Analyze cash flow trends and patterns
- Recommend strategies for cash optimization
Lead annual audit processes and tax return preparation
Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting staff
Provide strategic financial analysis and recommendations to senior management
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local legal requirements
Implement and maintain accounting systems and databases
Monitor and analyze department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
CPA certification
7+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 5 years in a management role
Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting requirements
Advanced proficiency in Excel and ERP systems
Experience with financial modeling and forecasting
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
Strong leadership and team management abilities
Outstanding written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

MBA or Master's in Accounting
Experience in relevant industries (wine, hospitality, manufacturing, or agriculture)
Knowledge of industry-specific accounting practices
Experience with system implementations and process improvements
Background in multiple entity accounting
Experience with inventory management systems

Salary Range $48.00 hr -$53.00 hr DOE
