Key Responsibilities:

  • Transportation:

    • Safely operate a Class A commercial vehicle to haul grain and other agricultural products.
    • Load and unload grain from the truck, ensuring that all loads are properly secured and within weight limits.
    • Transport loads between farms, grain elevators, processing plants, and distribution centers.
    • Plan routes efficiently, considering weight restrictions, road conditions, and delivery deadlines.
  • Compliance & Safety:

    • Ensure compliance with all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, including hours of service (HOS), weight limits, and safety standards.
    • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle and equipment, reporting any mechanical issues or necessary repairs.
    • Follow all company and customer safety protocols when loading, unloading, and operating the vehicle.
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date logbooks, trip reports, and delivery records.
  • Customer Service:

    • Provide courteous and professional service when interacting with customers, farmers, and other stakeholders.
    • Communicate any delays, issues, or changes in delivery schedules to dispatch or customers as needed.
    • Ensure grain is delivered in good condition, taking care to prevent contamination or damage.
  • Maintenance:

    • Perform minor vehicle maintenance as needed, such as checking fluid levels, tire pressure, and lights.
    • Ensure the cleanliness and general upkeep of the truck and trailer.
    • Report any major mechanical or safety issues to maintenance personnel for repairs.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Licensing:

    • Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL A) with a clean driving record.
    • Endorsements such as Tanker (N) or Hazardous Materials (H) may be required depending on company and state regulations.
  • Experience:

    • Minimum of 2 years of experience driving heavy trucks, preferably in agricultural or grain hauling.
    • Experience with operating various trailers, such as hopper bottoms, dump trailers, or belt trailers, is preferred.
  • Physical Requirements:

    • Ability to lift and maneuver heavy equipment or cargo as needed.
    • Comfortable working in various weather conditions and on uneven rural terrain.
    • Capable of prolonged periods of sitting and driving long distances.
  • Attention to Detail:

    • Ability to accurately read and interpret road signs, maps, and instructions.
    • Strong focus on safety, ensuring the vehicle and load are always secure and compliant with regulations.
  • Communication:

    • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to report to dispatch and communicate with customers.
    • Ability to use electronic devices for logging hours, checking routes, and staying in touch with dispatch.

Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is preferred but not required.
  • Completion of a CDL training program is a plus.

Additional Requirements:

  • Ability to work long hours, including nights, weekends, and during peak harvest seasons.
  • Flexibility to work in various locations depending on hauling needs.
  • Willingness to follow all company policies regarding safety, maintenance, and operational standards.
