Underground Utility Worker

Express Employment Professionals in Albertville is looking for a Full time underground utilities laborer. An underground utilities laborer is expected to safely and effectively operate locator equipment associated with directional drilling.

Majority of the work is located on the west side of the Twin Cities.  You will be reporting to the St. Michael area.

 

What will you do?

• Accurately locate directional drill heads and provide precise direction to drill operator
• Properly mark discovered utilities
• Hand dig using shovel and/or mechanical tools safely around utilities
• Maintain visual and audible contact with other crewmen and all moving or stationary persons/vehicles/objects to ensure safe coordination of movement
• Perform general construction work under direction from general foreman/supervisor
• Flagging, property or worksite restoration as needed
• Maintain safe working habits/conditions according to all regulations, procedures and policies

  

Qualifications:

• Must have a valid drivers license and acceptable driving record
• The ability to operate various types of utility trucks and trailers is a necessary part of this job
• Basic knowledge and ability to use hand tools and equipment in a safe manner
• Ability to communicate effectively with customers, employees, etc.
• Regular and timely attendance is an essential part of this position

 

Preferred Qualifications:

• Unrestricted Class A CDL
• Previous experience in cable/utility locating
• Basic knowledge and ability to use and operate cable plow, directional drill and locator
• Able to read prints and utility maps

Physical Requirements:

• Climb into and out of equipment (trucks, trailers, cable plow)
• Must be able to carry 50lbs regularly and up to 100lbs as needed with or without assistance
• Duties outlined in this position will require the employee to stand, crouch, sit, bend, use hands and fingers to handle or feel as well as reaching with hands and arms to spaces both high and low. The employee will be standing, walking, crouching, lifting, holding or stooping while on shift
• Must wear safety boots and safety vest
• All work is outdoors so employees in this position are regularly exposed to outside weather conditions which can include but is not limited to: extreme heat and cold temperatures; inclement weather such as rain, snow and sleet as well as adverse driving conditions including wet roads, icy roads, and fog.
