Job Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated and organized Medical Office Specialist with experience in working with the Oregon Health Plan (OHP). The candidate will be responsible for performing a variety of administrative and clerical tasks to support the daily operations of the medical office. This role requires strong knowledge of OHP guidelines, medical billing, insurance verification, and patient scheduling.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oregon Health Plan Coordination:

    • Handle OHP patient inquiries, process applications, verify eligibility, and ensure compliance with OHP regulations.
    • Assist patients in navigating their benefits and insurance coverage, including understanding co-pays, deductibles, and coverage limitations.
  • Patient Intake & Registration:

    • Greet and check in patients, collect and verify patient information, and ensure accurate data entry into the medical records system.
    • Schedule appointments, confirm referrals, and maintain efficient patient flow within the office.
  • Medical Billing & Insurance Verification:

    • Verify insurance coverage for OHP and other insurance plans, ensuring correct coding for medical procedures.
    • Assist with medical billing, payment collection, and managing patient accounts related to OHP claims.
  • Administrative Duties:

    • Answer phones, manage patient communications, and handle inquiries.
    • Maintain accurate and organized patient records and assist in documentation as needed.
    • Coordinate with healthcare providers, insurance companies, and patients to ensure smooth operation of the office.
  • Customer Service:

    • Provide excellent customer service to patients, addressing their concerns in a professional and compassionate manner.
    • Ensure patients are informed of their healthcare plan options and assist them in understanding their coverage.
  • Compliance & Confidentiality:

    • Adhere to HIPAA regulations and ensure patient confidentiality.
    • Keep updated with OHP policies and changes to provide accurate information to patients and the medical team.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working with the Oregon Health Plan (OHP) in a medical office setting.
  • Strong understanding of medical terminology, insurance verification, and healthcare billing processes.
  • Familiarity with Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems.
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking skills, with attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

Education & Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; an associate’s degree or certification in medical office administration is preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in a medical office or healthcare setting, specifically with Oregon Health Plan knowledge.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification in Medical Billing or Coding.
  • Experience with OHP insurance claims, billing, and authorization processes.
