The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing the accounting, budgeting, and reporting activities of the organization. This position works closely with the Chief Financial Officer in formulating and reviewing internal controls and policies, preparing financial statements, managing journal entries, assisting in budgeting and forecasting, and reviewing accounting information for accuracy. This role utilizes accounting software, analyzes data, and contributes to the financial reporting and control processes of the company.

 

A high level of reliability and attention to detail is necessary to be successful in this role.

 

Your key responsibilities include:

  • Manage and oversee various accounting operations, such as billing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, inventory accounting, and revenue recognition.
  • Prepare and publish monthly and annual financial statements, reports, and forecasts, such, income statement, and balance sheet.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and professional standards.
  • Supervise accounting staff.
  • Assist in the formulation of internal controls and policies to comply with legislation and established best practices.
  • Manage journal entries and reconcile accounts for monthly or annual closing.
  • Assist in the preparation of budgets or forecasts.
  • Lead the preparation of the annual audit.
  • Utilize accounting IT system to facilitate processes and maintain records.
  • Prepare various tax filings (multi-state state tax returns, and corporate income tax).

 

To thrive in this role, you’ll need:

  • BSc/BA in accounting, finance or relevant field; experience in related field may substitute for education on a year for year basis.
  • Minimum 5 years of proven experience as Accounting Manager or other similar position.
  • A strong understanding of accounting principles.
  • Solid knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and regulations.
  • Excellent knowledge of accounting and financial processes (budgeting, financial closure, reporting etc.).
  • Understanding of data analysis and forecasting.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office (especially excel) and accounting software (QuickBooks).
  • Must be a strategic thinker with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Dependable and capable of working independently and collaboratively.
  • Well-organized with a keen attention to detail and ability to prioritize.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Professional certification (e.g. CPA or Enrolled Agent) a plus.
  • Strong understanding of non-profit accounting and tax returns, a plus.
