POSITION TITLE: Transportation Operations Utility Worker I
DEPARTMENT: Public Works
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt
SALARY GRADE: Grade 8

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

Performs various tasks to maintain streets, alleys, rights-of-way, and storm drain facilities within Redmond. Work includes operating equipment, winter operations, and maintaining city infrastructure.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Street Maintenance: Operates equipment for winter operations, asphalt repair, and road/alley grading.
• Street Signs: Installs signs using drills, post hole diggers, and jackhammers.
• Traffic Control: Sets up work zone signs and performs flagging.
• Street Sweeping: Operates sweepers and assists with storm drain maintenance.
• Concrete Repair: Repairs storm drains, curbs, gutters, and sidewalks.
• Crack Sealing: Uses compressors and sealing trailers for asphalt crack repair.
• General Duties: Performs additional tasks as required within Public Works.

JOB QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Mandatory Requirements:

• High school diploma or GED with at least one year of street maintenance or construction experience.
• Ability to safely operate vehicles and equipment.
• Valid Oregon driver’s license, with a Class A CDL required within six months of hire.
• ODOT Flagger Certificate and First Aid/CPR certification within six months.

Desirable Qualifications:

• Oregon Public Herbicide/Pesticide Applicator License.
• Oregon Roads Scholar Level 1 certification.
• 12 months of municipal streets maintenance or asphalt/cement experience.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Must regularly lift and move up to 50 pounds and occasionally team lift over 100 pounds. Frequent standing, walking, and use of hands. Occasional climbing and balancing.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Exposure to outdoor conditions, moving machinery, and possible toxic chemicals. May work near high noise levels and airborne particles.
