JOB DESCRIPTION

The Mold Maker – Tool Maker constructs, repairs and performs finishing operations on a wide variety of highly intricate Plastic Injection Molding tools, fixtures, dies and gauges. Sets up and operates a variety of machines including lathes, grinders, CNC, EDM, Wire EDM and Milling Machines. Perform highly skilled fitting and adjusting to assemble precision units together. Works with minimum supervision from rough sketches, verbal information, blueprints, drawings and models.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Competent, safe operation of manual milling machines and lathes
• Programming, set-up and operation CNC, EDM, Wire EDM and Milling Machines.
• Interpret customer-supplied parts, drawings, and computer files
• Mold layout, including materials, gates, vents, parting lines, overall size, shrinkage, heat transfer
• Utilize any/all machine centers to achieve desired results
• Fabricate high-quality injection molds
• Meeting schedule commitments (on-time build)
• Fine-tune molds based on feedback from molding department
• Repair molds based on feedback from molding department
• Conduct preventative mold maintenance as needed
• Tool Room housekeeping, keep machine centers and personal tools orderly
• Notify manager or project manager of any materials or tools required
• Participate in corrective / preventive action reviews (assist production in troubleshooting)
• Special projects as required.

 EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION 

•  High school diploma
• Minimum 5 years'' plastics injection molding tooling experience (layout and build)
• Computer literate / CAD literate
• Qualified on all tool room equipment
• Excellent mechanical aptitude
• Good math skills
• Able to work independently with minimal supervision
• Strong commitment to quality, productivity and team performance in the workplace
• Good teamwork, organization and communication skills
