Diesel Mechanic (Mine Equipment)

Salary: up to $115,000 annually

Heavy Equipment Mechanic needed in Detroit, MI.

Day and night shift positions available. Pay BOE, up to $115,000 annually. Must be comfortable working overtime, 12-hour shifts.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Analyze malfunctions and conduct repairs, rebuilds, and maintenance on a variety of power equipment including cranes, wheel loaders, haul trucks, conveyors, bulldozers, and more.
  • Operate and inspect machinery to diagnose defects, dismantle and reassemble equipment as necessary, and examine parts for damage or wear.
  • Weld broken parts and structural members when required.
  • Conduct fluid level checks, service lube points, and perform routine preventative maintenance.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area through daily routine housekeeping.
  • Complete assigned paperwork accurately and submit work logs at the end of each shift.
  • Ensure adherence to safety policies, procedures, and regulations, and remain vigilant to hazards and changing conditions on mine property.
  • Cross-train and multitask with various skill sets and functions as needed.
  • Perform incidental tasks required to complete larger tasks efficiently.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors and management regarding task completion and safety concerns.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical and hydraulic systems promptly and with craftsmanship.
  • Utilize technical drawings and testing equipment to diagnose and resolve issues.
  • Source replacement parts, install them, and make repairs as necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Preferred 1-year experience in CAT SIS Program.
  • 2-4 years of experience in an industrial shop or mining environment required.
  • 2-4 years of experience as a heavy equipment mechanic required.
  • Dependable and reliable with a commitment to safety.
  • Familiarity with a variety of equipment types and systems.
  • Ability to operate vehicles and equipment for testing and troubleshooting.
  • Capability to repair equipment to OEM standards.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and general computer programs.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Fluent in spoken, written, and comprehended English.

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to work safely in varying temperatures indoors and outdoors year-round.
  • Capable of lifting and carrying up to 50+ pounds regularly.
  • Compliance with all PPE requirements.
