Job Title: Asbestos Cleaning Technician (Must have AHERA certification) 

 

Job Summary:
The Asbestos Cleaning Technician is responsible for safely identifying, removing, and disposing of asbestos-containing materials (ACM) in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. This role requires an active AHERA (Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act) certification and a thorough understanding of asbestos abatement protocols to ensure the health and safety of workers, building occupants, and the environment.

 

Experienced Starting Pay: $20-$23/HR

PPE Required: Hard Hat, Gloves, Glasses, & Vest
Additional PPE Provided by Client: Respirator Suit with Hood and Booties

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Asbestos Removal & Abatement: Safely remove asbestos-containing materials from residential, commercial, and industrial sites using proper techniques and personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • AHERA Compliance: Ensure all work is carried out according to AHERA regulations, including proper containment, decontamination, and disposal of asbestos materials.
  • Site Preparation: Set up containment areas, negative pressure environments, and proper signage to isolate asbestos work zones from non-affected areas.
  • Air Monitoring: Collaborate with certified industrial hygienists to monitor air quality before, during, and after asbestos removal to ensure safe working conditions.
  • Waste Management: Package and transport asbestos waste materials to designated disposal facilities following all applicable regulations.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Clean, decontaminate, and maintain abatement tools and equipment to ensure safety and compliance.
  • Documentation: Accurately complete all required documentation, including worksite logs, disposal manifests, and incident reports.
  • Health and Safety Compliance: Adhere to OSHA safety regulations, including the use of PPE such as respirators, suits, and gloves. Participate in safety meetings and drills.

Qualifications:

  • AHERA Certification (Required): Must have completed an accredited AHERA certification program and maintain current certification.
  • Experience in asbestos removal, hazardous material handling, or environmental cleanup is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations related to asbestos handling and removal.
  • Ability to read and understand project plans, safety protocols, and abatement procedures.
  • Physical Fitness: Ability to work in confined spaces, wear full protective equipment, and lift heavy materials.
  • Attention to detail and strong commitment to safety protocols.

Skills:

  • Excellent communication skills for working with team members, supervisors, and clients.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team.
  • Problem-solving and troubleshooting skills to manage unforeseen situations on job sites.

Work Environment:

  • Consistent lifting of 50lbs or more.
  • Frequent exposure to hazardous materials and environments.
  • May require extended hours, weekend work, and travel to various job sites.
  • Work performed indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Education/Certifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • AHERA certification is mandatory.
  • Additional safety or environmental certifications (e.g., OSHA HAZWOPER, asbestos supervisor training) are a plus.
