Job Summary:
The pool laborer assists in the installation, maintenance, cleaning, and repair of swimming pools, including seasonal work such as pool opening and closing. This role requires physical labor, working outdoors, and working alongside a team to ensure the efficient completion of tasks related to pool construction and upkeep.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the construction of new pools, including excavation, forming, and pouring concrete.
  • Perform general maintenance tasks, such as cleaning pool filters, vacuuming, brushing pool walls, and skimming the surface for debris.
  • Help with installing and repairing pool equipment, including pumps, heaters, and filtration systems.
  • Assist in mixing, pouring, and applying pool plaster, tiles, or finishes.
  • Carry materials such as tiles, cement, and pool equipment to work areas.
  • Inspect pools for leaks, damages, or wear and report findings to supervisors.
  • Assist with seasonal pool opening and closing:
    • Prepare pools for seasonal openings by uncovering, filling, treating, and testing water quality.
    • Winterize pools during the off-season, including draining, covering, and protecting pool systems from freezing.
  • Prepare pool areas for seasonal use, including cleaning surrounding areas, adjusting chemical levels, and ensuring equipment is functioning properly.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and guidelines on-site.
  • Perform general cleanup duties, such as removing debris, cleaning tools, and organizing the work area.
  • Assist in repairing pool plumbing and electrical systems as needed.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Physical strength and stamina – Ability to lift heavy materials and work in outdoor conditions.
  • Team player – Ability to work well with a crew in a labor-intensive environment.
  • Basic understanding of tools and equipment – Familiarity with hand and power tools.
  • Attention to detail – Ability to follow instructions closely for pool repairs and maintenance.
  • Problem-solving skills – Identify issues such as leaks or equipment malfunctions.
  • Basic knowledge of pool systems (filters, heaters, etc.) is a plus.

Education/Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Previous experience in construction, landscaping, or maintenance work is an advantage.

Work Environment:

  • Primarily outdoor work, exposed to varying weather conditions.
  • Work involves standing, lifting, bending, and other physically demanding activities.
  • Seasonal work may be required, particularly during spring for pool opening and fall for pool closings.
