Accounting Technician

ROLE

The Accounting Technician is a transitional, career-entry role with a high learning curve. During the initial learning phase the Accounting Technician is expected to learn and develop the skills necessary to help the team exceed client expectations.

The purpose of the role is to process client documents in order to organize them into financial information for a variety of uses, including preparation of financial statements (Compilation Engagements) and tax returns.

The candidate will ideally have solid bookkeeping experience in a broad spectrum of accounting areas. Tax experience (both personal and corporate) is preferred but not required. Experience working in a collaborative team environment is an asset.

Must have the ability to work 10 hours of overtime per week from February 1st to April 30th.

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS

Technical – Accounting and Taxation

  • Develop an understanding of client bookkeeping and payroll processes
  • Prepare working papers (reconciliations that support various balance sheet accounts)
  • Prepare financial statements
  • Develop an understanding of basic Canadian Income Tax reporting requirements
  • Prepare simple corporate tax returns
  • Prepare various compliance-related reports in prescribed form for reporting authorities (ie. CRA T4 and T5 Summaries and Supplementaries; WCB reports, GST reports)
  • Prepare personal tax returns (including business schedules T22125)
  • Identify accounting and tax issues relevant to the client and draft correspondence to clients for further discussion of the issues

Administrative

  • Process, summarize, organize and gather required information for the assigned task
  • Print, scan, link, hyperlink, attach and file documents as required
  • Respond to client and co-worker inquiries to resolve questions and coordinate projects

Client Service

  • Develop positive relationships with clients and team members
  • Organize & summarize work and questions to minimize disruptions to firm and client staff
  • Understand the purpose of the time budgets and monitor own time compared to budget

  • Microsoft Suite: Outlook, Excel, Word, Powerpoint
  • Caseware
  • Profile tax software
  • Sage, QuickBooks, Xero

DESIRED REQUIREMENTS

  • High School Diploma
  • Post-secondary accounting training.
  • May have an unrelated diploma or degree.
  • May have some related work experience

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: $40,000.00-$60,000.00 per year

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift
  • Overtime
