Express Employment Professionals has been asked by one of our clients to hire a Director of Planning and Development in Broward County, Florida. This position includes a generous compensation and benefit package.

 

Position Overview: The Director of Planning and Development is responsible for overseeing the operations and services provided by the Planning and Development Department. This role involves leading and managing planning professionals in the creation, coordination, and implementation of comprehensive urban plans, master plans, project-specific site plans, and land development plans. The Director will also develop and oversee the five-year Capital Improvement Plan (CIP), managing projects from planning through construction. Additionally, this role will be responsible for generating and implementing departmental policies, objectives, and procedures, as well as evaluating the cost/benefit of current and future development projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and direct the planning, organization, and oversight of departmental operations.
  • Oversee the creation and implementation of comprehensive urban plans, including amendments and project-specific site plans.
  • Develop and manage the five-year Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) and approved projects from design to construction.
  • Supervise planning activities across commercial, industrial, and residential developments.
  • Generate, implement, and manage departmental policies, objectives, and procedures.
  • Ensure the compilation and analysis of data for evaluating the cost and benefits of development projects.
  • Collaborate with Federal, State, County, and Local government agencies and officials.
  • Maintain proficiency in relevant software, including AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, and databases.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Planning, Urban Planning, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Civil Engineering, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of management and supervisory experience in planning and design.
  • Certifications: At least one of the following certifications is required:
    • American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP)
    • American Planning Association (APA)
    • State of Florida Professional Engineer (PE)
  • Strong proficiency in software packages such as AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, and related databases.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Valid Florida Driver’s License and ability to travel locally and nationally.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience working with Federal, State, County, and Local government agencies.

Schedule:

  • Normal work hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with occasional weekends and holidays based on project needs and emergencies.

Salary Range:

  • $180,000 to $240,000 annually, commensurate with experience.
