Job Title: Material Handler

Summary: The Material Handler is responsible for unloading trucks, receiving, and managing incoming materials, including both hazardous and non-hazardous items. This role ensures the safe handling and transportation of hazardous materials to designated areas. The Material Handler verifies and corrects discrepancies on packing slips against Purchase Orders and coordinates with Quality, Purchasing, or Suppliers as necessary. Additionally, this role involves delivering raw materials to the production floor as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Unload trucks and receive materials.
  • Safely move hazardous materials to designated locations.
  • Separate materials and verify documentation accuracy.
  • Enter receiving information into the ERP system.
  • Stage products for incoming inspection.
  • Deliver raw materials to the production floor.
  • Complete DOT/IATA training and certification within 90 days of hire.
  • Complete forklift training and certification within 90 days of hire.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 1-2 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, including hazardous materials handling.
  • DOT/ICAO certification and forklift certification are preferred.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to perform essential duties satisfactorily.
  • Proficient in problem-solving and working in a team-oriented environment with all levels of employees and management.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to read and understand policies, procedures, instructions, and regulations in English.
  • Flexibility to work varying hours, including meetings, training, shift coverage, and overtime as required.

Work Environment:

  • Exposure to typical lighting and temperature conditions for both office and manufacturing areas.
  • Use of appropriate safety equipment is required.
  • Potential exposure to hazardous chemicals, including radiation.
  • Some movement between departments may occur in unfavorable weather conditions.
  • Exposure to explosive materials used in manufacturing processes.

Physical Demands:

  • Regular movement throughout the facility, including traversing production areas.
  • Occasional manual operation of general office and test equipment.
  • Ability to move, reach, detect, and navigate confined spaces.
  • Frequent stationary positioning.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and transport up to 50 pounds.
  • Vision abilities include close inspection, distance identification, color determination, peripheral detection, depth judgment, and detail identification under varying conditions.
