Job Summary: The Construction Estimator is responsible for accurately estimating the costs associated with construction projects. This role involves analyzing project plans, specifications, and requirements to provide detailed and accurate cost estimates, ensuring that projects are financially viable and align with client expectations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Cost Estimation:

    • Review project plans, specifications, and scope of work to determine the cost of labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor services.
    • Prepare detailed cost estimates and bid proposals for construction projects.
    • Conduct site visits to assess project conditions and gather necessary data for accurate estimations.
  • Budget Management:

    • Develop and maintain cost databases and historical cost data for accurate and reliable estimates.
    • Monitor and analyze market trends, material costs, and labor rates to ensure competitive pricing.
    • Collaborate with project managers and engineers to identify cost-saving opportunities and budget adjustments.
  • Bid Preparation:

    • Prepare and submit bid proposals, including detailed breakdowns of costs, timelines, and project scope.
    • Review and analyze bids from subcontractors and suppliers, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
    • Negotiate terms and conditions with subcontractors and suppliers as necessary.
  • Project Coordination:

    • Work closely with project managers, architects, and engineers to clarify project requirements and resolve any discrepancies.
    • Assist in the preparation of project schedules and timelines based on cost estimates.
    • Ensure that all estimates and proposals comply with project specifications and contractual obligations.
  • Reporting and Documentation:

    • Maintain accurate records of all estimates, bids, and correspondence related to construction projects.
    • Prepare and present cost reports and analysis to senior management and clients.
    • Track and document changes in project scope, costs, and timelines.

Qualifications:

  • Experience:

    • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience as a Construction Estimator or in a similar role within the construction industry.
    • Proven track record of preparing accurate cost estimates and managing construction budgets.
  • Skills:

    • Strong analytical and mathematical skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
    • Proficiency in estimating software and construction management tools (e.g., Procore, RSMeans, Sage).
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with clients, subcontractors, and team members.
    • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
  • Education:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a related field preferred.
    • Relevant certifications (e.g., Certified Professional Estimator, Associate Estimator) a plus.
  • Additional Requirements:

    • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
