Quality Technician

Located in Grand Rapids, MI

Salary: $20/HR+, BOE

Quality Technician Summary: A structural steel company that fabricates steel stairs and hand rails for commercial and institutional buildings, is looking for a Quality Technician to join their team.

 

Quality Technician Requirements:

• Conduct in-process inspections based on project specifications
• Perform final inspections of required pieces ensuring all fabricating, welding, and coating are completed accurately prior to shipment
• Verify that designated pieces have undergone in-process inspections
• Inspect according to shop drawings, assessing material size, burn quality, weld appearance, straightness, surface preparation, coating thickness, proper identification, and compliance with procedures, specifications, and codes
• Address all non-conformance issues according to the Control of Nonconforming Product procedure
• Operate under the direct supervision of the Quality Assurance Manager or designer
• Perform testing of bolting assemblies with Skidmore and document the results
• Willing to assist with other tasks as requested

Schedule & Pay:

• 2nd shift 4:00PM to 3:00AM Monday – Friday plus additional OT as required
• $20-24/HR, based on experience

Quality Technician Qualifications:

• Minimum of two years of experience in structural steel fabrication or a similar construction environment
• Advanced familiarity with shop fabrication techniques and methodologies
• Proficiency in reading and understanding shop drawings and ensuring materials conform to specifications and codes
• Expertise in inspecting welds, bolted joints, and surface preparation or coating applications
• Quality driven and high attention to detail
• Excellent vison, corrected to 20/20
• Ability to lift to 100 lbs. as needed 
• Able to be walk/stand/bend/kneel for the duration of the shift
• High school diploma or equivalent
