POSITION: Preschool Teacher

 

SUMMARY: Perform any combination of the following instructional tasks in the classroom to assist teachers with the following duties.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Know and follow Personnel Policies, Employee Handbook, Administrative Directives, and other guidance as may be provided.
  • Know and implement the activities and requirements of the Child Health & Development Area Plan, and take direction in all facets of the daily program.
  • When required will step in as lead educator as directed by the supervisor.
  • Discuss assigned teaching areas with classroom teachers to coordinate instructional efforts.
  • Assist in establishing the daily schedule.
  • Assist with lesson planning.
  • Assist with Teaching Strategies Gold documentation, checkpoint completion, and computer entry as needed.
  • Assist in, preparing, and developing various teaching aids, activities, or learning centers. Assist students, individually or in groups, with activities to reinforce learning concepts and support the development of new skills.
  • Engage children in activities to develop trust, stimulate brain development, enhance language acquisition and develop motor skills.
  • Assist with the completion of the initial screenings and any required follow-up evaluation as required.
  • Confer with parents on the progress of children as assigned by the Teacher or Center Director.
  • Prepare & maintain classroom furniture, supplies & equipment for daily activities.
  • Supervise children during daily activities. Maintain the appropriate adult-to-child ratio. Children will not be left unsupervised at any time.
  • Participate in classroom observation, recording, and identification of children''s needs.
  • Research educational materials and resources as assigned.
  • Utilize community resources as assigned.
  • Implement IEP activities as assigned.
  • Assist in staff-parent transition meetings to ensure parents understand the child’s progress while enrolled.
  • Comply with and consistently implement daily Safety & Health procedural requirements of the program. Also, assist with all tracking requirements and documentation.
  • Instruct children in practices of personal cleanliness and self-care as age-appropriate.
  • Help children establish habits of caring for their clothing; picking up toys and books as age-appropriate.
  • Serve meals to children in family-style whenever possible and eat with children as a role model for developing good nutrition habits.
  • Follow and implement the system of limits, rules, and regulations established for children. Implement behavior management plans as needed.
  • Participate in all program training opportunities. Give input relative to T/TA needs a supervisor for consideration. Evaluate training.
  • Conduct activities to complete Family & Community Partnership objectives as assigned.
  • Attend Parent Center Meetings as required.
  • Substitute at alternate sites as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervise volunteers in the classroom as directed by the teacher. Carry out supervisory responsibilities following policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities may include training volunteers; planning, assigning, and directing work.

 

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The essential functions of this job classification require no more than 8 occurrences per the attendance policy, excluding accommodation plans under ADA, Workers Compensation back-to-work, or Family Medical Leave Act. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required:

 

Minimum requirements:

 

  • Must be 18 years of age and have a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent certificate
  • Willing to obtain CDA within six months of hire. Program will provide opportunities for training support to obtain a teacher’s qualification, including CDA support and coaching.
  • Previous experience working in early childhood with children ages birth through five years preferred.
  • Teaching Strategies; Gold; must take the required training for inter-rater reliability and update every two years.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to parents, volunteers, community representatives, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to work independently with little to no supervision. Ability to work as part of a team and recognize when teamwork is required.
  • Good interpersonal communication, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Working knowledge of personal computers, database programs, internet, and email systems.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:

 

  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 10 lbs; frequently up to 25 lbs; and occasionally up to 50 lbs.
  • Frequently stand, talk, hear, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands or arms.
  • Occasionally required to balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Specific vision required includes close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

 

SCHEDULE:

Monday - Friday 8am - 5pm

 

PAY:

$16.71-$23.71
