A Delivery Driver for our steel company is responsible for ensuring timely and accurate delivery of steel products to our customers. This role involves driving a company vehicle, maintaining delivery schedules, ensuring the safety and security of the load, and providing excellent customer service. The ideal candidate should have a clean driving record, relevant driving experience, and a commitment to safety.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Transport and Deliver Steel Products:

    • Safely operate delivery vehicles to transport steel products to customer locations.
    • Ensure proper loading, securing, and unloading of materials.
    • Verify delivery instructions and addresses for accuracy.
  • Customer Service:

    • Interact professionally with customers, providing exceptional service and addressing any delivery-related inquiries.
    • Obtain signatures and necessary documentation upon delivery.
  • Safety and Compliance:

    • Adhere to all safety regulations and company policies, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
    • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle, reporting any issues to management.
    • Maintain compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company policies.
  • Route Management:

    • Plan and follow efficient delivery routes to optimize time and fuel usage.
    • Adjust routes as needed based on traffic, weather, and other unforeseen conditions.
  • Vehicle Maintenance:

    • Ensure the delivery vehicle is clean, well-maintained, and in good working condition.
    • Report any mechanical issues or maintenance needs to the fleet manager.

Qualifications:

  • Education and Experience:

    • High school diploma or equivalent.
    • Previous experience as a delivery driver, preferably in the steel or construction materials industry.
  • Licenses and Certifications:

    • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
    • Forklift certification (preferred but not required).
  • Skills and Abilities:

    • Strong knowledge of DOT regulations and safety standards.
    • Excellent navigation and route planning skills.
    • Ability to lift and handle heavy materials safely.
    • Strong communication and customer service skills.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift, carry, and move heavy materials (up to 50 pounds) regularly.
  • Prolonged periods of driving and sitting.
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions.
